Keep Livingston’s City Clerk an elected position.
Here’s why:
The City Clerk is the official custodian of Livingston’s records: minutes, ordinances, contracts, and election documents. That office should answer to voters, not to the same Council and staff whose actions are being recorded in these vital records.
Measure T would make the Clerk appointive. An appointed Clerk serves at the pleasure of City Hall, not the public. That concentrates control of official records in the same offices the Clerk is required to keep honest.
In Livingston, public trust depends on an independent clerk.
